Desert Sports reserves the right to cancel any reservations due to river or backcountry conditions with a no-hassle FULL refund or another reservation, your choice.


50% of your rental/shuttle subtotal will secure your reservation. For transactions that subtotal $50 or less, the full amount is charged. Sorry, no refunds. Reservations are accepted by phone with MasterCard, Visa, Discover, or American Express. No credit card, no problem: we will accept a personal check or a cashier’s check.


Cancellations made less than two weeks prior to and including departure date will incur charges of 100% of the total rental/shuttle amount. All cancellations must be made in writing. Desert Sports reserves the right to cancel any reservations with a no-hassle FULL refund or another reservation.

River Permits

Permits are required on all river trips. State Park permits (Colorado Canyon) are available at the Barton Warnock Center. Please note that National Park permits are $12 for any multi-day trip. Multi-day backcountry permits are obtained from the National Park Visitor Centers or Iron Rangers (self-permitting system) at the Barton Warnock Center and Persimmon Gap, where your receipt from your pay envelope is your validation. There is no charge for National Park one-day river permits; one-day permits are available at National Park Visitor Centers and in limited quantity at Desert Sports.

Park User Fees

Big Bend Ranch State Park (Tapado to Lajitas): OCT-APRIL $5/person; MAY-SEPT $3/person per day, plus camping fees; payable to BBRSP.

Big Bend National Park (Lajitas to Dryden Crossing): $25/vehicle per week; payable to BBNP.
